The Hoher Freschen is an Alpine mountain near Bregenz, Vorarlberg with a peak at an elevation of about 2004m.
Starting from Laterns, at an elevation of 971m, a very gentle hike leads through a picturesque valey up to the Freschenhaus and from there to the peak.
The following photos have been taken in October of 2025.
Along the final stretch of the path, looking in a south-westerly direction, we can see the Freschenhaus. Zooming in on the full resolution version of the picture, and looking a little to the right of the hut, the dirt road leading up from Laterns can be seen.
A little further along the way towards the peak, looking back south. As said, it is a rather gentle hike, particularly the last bit from the hut onwards.
Towards the north, however, is a steep, vertical drop. Demarkated by the sign that can be seen to the left.
The singular, sharp peak in the distance, in the right half of the image is the Staufen.
Right behind the Staufen, through the thick haze, we can make out the Bodensee that lies on the border between Austria, Germany and Switzerland.
Same vantage point, looking a little further to the right without the sign in the image. The Staufen is now slightly to the left of the center.
Looking east from the peak. Another path to the peak would theoretically come up from this precipice.
Looking to a south-westerly direction, the border region between Austria, Switzerland and Liechtenstein is hidden in the haze.
Straight ahead, roughly in the center of the image, is the Kuhgrat, most of the visible part of the mountain located in Austria and the peak located on the Liechtenstein side of the border.
