The base frame consists of a cuboid of aluminium extrusions, I-type, 20x20mm, screwed together into a shape that is 40cm wide, 30cm deep and 20cm tall.
For the metrically impaired: the extrusions are about 0.79" squared, the cuboid measures roughly 15.75" by 11.81" by 7.9".
The shortest (20cm) extrusions forming the vertical struts had been threaded on each end for M5 screws (i.e. 5mm diameter). Both to later mount the top and plates, as well as rubber feet on the bottom.
The extrusions were scavanged from the local hacker space, 2m long pieces cut to length with a little hand saw, the threads were also made with a hand tool. Precision was rather so-so.
Sheet metal was ordered, pre-cut from local company Aduis. It is anodized steel, about 0.6mm thick (circa 23.6mil).
The rubber feet were bought at a local hardware store. Those are basically a bunch of thick, rubber coasters for furniture with a way-too-tiny hole in the middle that I forced some M5 screws into.
